OCCULT is a shareware program which provides occultation observers with a comprehensive package to support their program of observing. However OCCULT also computes more general data which makes it of use to all astronomical observers.
OCCULT's main functions include:
- Lunar Ocultation Predictions: For any date and location...
- Compute predictions for Total Occultations of stars and planets.
(Includes: Plot a map of a moon to show where the star will disappear or reappear)
- Compute predictions for Grazing Occultations of stars and planets.
(Includes: Compute the expected lunar limb profile)
- Record and Reduce Occultation Observations:
- Record observations of Total and Grazing Occultations in the format required by the International Lunar Occultation Centre
- Reduce Total and Grazing Occultations ( i.e. Compare your observed position of the edge of the Moon against its expected position)
- Plot Grazing Occultation results against the expected profile of the lunar limb
- Reduce observations of Asteroidal Occultations
- Predict Asteroidal and Planetary Occultations of Stars:
- Identify Asteroidal and Planetary Occultations and plot regional maps showing their occultation paths
- Solar and Lunar Eclipse Predictions, and Transits:
- Predict Solar and Lunar Eclipses for any date. (Includes: Plot maps and compute local circumstances for Solar Eclipses)
- Compute and plot transits of Mercury and Venus across the Sun's disk

OCCULT includes the full PPM as well as other catalogues, and gives you the opportunity to construct your own specialist star catalogues (e.g.from the Hubble GSC)
Note:
- OCCULT is DOS-based software. As such, it is intended to run any any 286, 386, 486 or Pentium computer with enough disk space. Note that because parts of OCCULT are very calculation intensive computations may take a long time on older computers!.
- OCCULT 4.2 for DOS was released in June 1999. A Windows 95 version is under construction and will be released in due course.
