Maritima Update Map


On 2014 Mar 30 UT, the 90 km diameter asteroid (912) Maritima will occult a 11.7 mag star in the constellation Corona Australis for observers along a path across Australia from Cann River across eastern Victoria to Ruthergrlen and across south-western New South Wales, north-eastern South Australia, south-western Northern Territory and northern Western Australia to Derby.

In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 3.8 mag to 15.5 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 5.0 seconds.

This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Alice Monet, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
