ASTROMETRIC UPDATE:
OCCULTATION BY (2759) IDOMENEUS - 2007 MAY 14

[Edwin Goffin's Prediction + Finder Charts]

[Detailed Finder Charts]

Updated:   2007 APR 14, 00:32 UT

Event Rank : 14

(The event Rank is a measure of the likelihood of observing an event, and is equal to the probability of at least one successful observation by a team of two observers spaced 1/8 path width just inside opposite sides of the predicted path. An event rank of 100 indicates that the prediction is expected to be very accurate).

THE UPDATED PATH

Note: The duration given in the line below is the interval during which the occultation shadow sweeps across the Earth - please see the minute markers on the map to determine the approximate time for your location.

Idomeneus Update Map

On 2007 May 14 UT, the 61 km diameter asteroid (2759) Idomeneus will occult a 10.0 mag star in the constellation Aquarius for observers along a high uncertainty path beginning in South Australia passing near Ceduna. The path then moves into New South Wales passing north of Broken Hill and then over Narrabri before leaving the continent north of Coffs Harbour. The large uncertainty area stretches from just north of Brisbane down to just north of Sydney.

In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 7.9 mag to 17.9 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 3.0 seconds.

This update is based on historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
