On 2006 Nov 03 UT, the 39 km diameter asteroid (714) Ulula will occult a 9.2 mag star in the constellation Gemini for observers along a path crossing Papua New Guinea near Daru. The path then moves into Queensland crossing Cairns and Townsville, then into north east New South Wales passing close to Narrabri before leaving the continent directly across Sydney.

In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 4.1 mag to 13.3 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 4.5 seconds.

This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Ron Stone, TMO astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Bill Owen, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
