FOURTEENTH TRANS-TASMAN SYMPOSIUM ON OCCULTATIONS
Parkes, New South Wales, Australia
2020 April 13

(Updated 21 March 2020)

NewsFlash

Due to the Covid 19 corona virus and resulting travel restrictions into Australia, the NACAA organising committee has had to cancel the NACAA conference. This means the associated symposiums, such as TTSO14, can no longer go ahead in Parkes. By popular demand, the TTSO14 organisers will be running TTSO14 as a virtual symposium (vTTSO14) where all presentations will be webcast using MeetCheap. Unfortunately the nature of live streaming doesn't lend itself well to workshops so these will not be offered this year.

The Occultation Section of the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RASNZ) is pleased to announce that the Fourteenth Trans-Tasman Symposium on Occultations (TTSO14) will be held on Monday 13 April 2020, in conjunction with NACAA XXIX.

TTSO14 will feature reviews of recent occultation activity and results, data reduction methods and techniques, updated information on equipment, and sessions devoted to the practical needs of both new and more advanced observers. The meeting will be attended by occultation observers throughout Australia and New Zealand, and we hope to welcome the attendance and participation of observers from further afield.

NACAA XXIX will be held in Parkes, New South Wales, and hosted by the Central West Astronomical Society (CWAS). TTSO14 attendees are encouraged to also attend some or all of the NACAA events. More information NACAA is available on its website.

The formal TTSO14's sessions will follow the NACAA sessions and run through the day on Monday the 13th. However, there are a number of occultation related sessions elsewhere in the proposed NACAA program including a Occultations 101 Tutorial on Saturday the 11th and a number of papers on Sunday the 12th.

Registrations for TTSO14 will be done via the NACAA website.

If you wish to give a presentation or run a workshop at TTSO14, please contact Murray Forbes at murray_forbes@xtra.co.nz and I will email you a guide to using MeetCheap for giving presentations. Note: The login procedure is different for presenters than for visitors so read the guide carefully and keep a copy nearby when doing the presentation.

The entire TTSO14 meeting will be webcast using MeetCheap.

Some instructions on how to use MeetCheap to attend TTSO14 are given below;

Login to MeetCheap using this link https://murray-forbes.myownmeeting.net/. I suggest you right-click on the link and open as a new browser tab or window so you can easily swap back to this web page (for example, to see the schedule of presentations).

Once the page opens, put your full name or initials in the dialogue box and login . This allows us to see who is actually there. Steve Kerr or S Kerr is preferable than just SteveK. No password is required and the site cookie remembers your login name so subsequent logins only require you clicking 'OK'. The moderator question on the login box must remain as 'NO' otherwise you cannot login. Do not modify that URL in any way as it will not work. We've found that some web browsers (such as M/S Explorer, M/S Edge or the linux Konquerer) have problems, while Chrome and FireFox seems to be okay.

The schedule and links to the presentations for TTSO14 can be found here.
